The Town of Berne has a van available for use by Community Caregivers volunteers in providing rides for Berne residents who are enrolled in this special program. Gasoline is provided free so there is no cost to volunteers or to Berne residents who need service.
Volunteers do not need a class II license, just a current NYS driver’s license and proof of insurance. Volunteers set their own schedule -- as little as 2 hours a month.
Becoming a volunteer is easy -- Attend a brief orientation meeting and fill out a volunteer form. Community Caregivers’ staff will explain how it works and get you started helping your neighbor.
The next orientation session will be held on Tuesday July 15th at 1pm at the Berne Town Hall. Pre-registration is not necessary.
Becoming a client is just as easy -- Call Community Caregivers at 456-2898 to arrange a short visit from our Intake staff to get signed up for the program.
The need for services has increased dramatically as family members move off the hill for various reasons. Your neighbors need help. Our goal at Community Caregivers is to assist the Town of Berne in helping our neighbors maintain their dignity, independence and quality of life.
For more information on becoming a volunteer or a client, please call 456-2898 or visit us on the web at
